Frankfort, KY – March 19, 2025 – The Frankfort Independent Schools (FIS) is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the Kentucky Comprehensive Literacy (KyCL) Grant. This prestigious grant, awarded by the Kentucky Department of Education, will provide essential funding to enhance literacy instruction and improve student outcomes across all grade levels. The grant will provide the FIS with $1.065 million over four years to enhance literacy experiences for all students.

The KCL Grant is designed to support schools in implementing evidence-based literacy practices that foster reading proficiency and comprehension skills. Through this funding, FIS will expand its literacy initiatives, invest in professional development for educators, and provide additional resources to students to ensure they develop strong reading and writing skills.

“We are thrilled to receive the Kentucky Comprehensive Literacy Grant,” said Dr. Sheri Satterly, Superintendent of Frankfort Independent Schools. “This funding will allow us to strengthen our literacy programs and ensure that every student has the opportunity to become a confident, proficient reader. Literacy is the foundation of lifelong learning, and this grant will have a lasting impact on our students’ success.”

The grant will support various initiatives, including targeted interventions for struggling readers, increased access to high-quality instructional materials, and collaboration with families and community partners to promote literacy beyond the classroom. The grant, valued at $1.065 million dollars, will focus on literacy for all ages, from birth to graduation.

FIS remains committed to fostering a culture of literacy excellence and preparing students for academic achievement and future success. The district looks forward to implementing the new initiatives made possible by the KCL Grant and continuing to provide high-quality education to its students.
